Befriending God

And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was called the friend of God. (James 2:23)

  • The creation of the world shows there is a Designer behind the universe.

  • The conscience indicates a Lawgiver behind each human’s sense of right and wrong.

  • The creativity we express in music and art reflect the same attribute that the Creator possesses.

  • Christ reveals what God is like in human form.

  • And the communion or fellowship of the Spirit in the Christian heart manifests the reality of God.

  • The Bible tells us there will be those who deny the reality of God.

  • But James reminds us of His reality and how an Old Testament believer befriended Him: “‘Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.’ And he was called the friend of God”.

  • Have you met the redeeming God?

  • He gave His Son to become your real, eternal Friend.

  • The dearest friend on earth is but a mere shadow compared to Jesus.

The Lord Is My Shepherd

The Lord is my shepherd (Psalm 23:1)

In trying to discover God's will for our life, we must not forget that He is our Shepherd.

(1) He supplies our needs (v. 1)

He knows all our needs. He supplies them at the correct time because He cares about our spiritual growth.

(2) He restores us (v.3)

He restores our soul from our sins, from our enemies, and from the shadow of death.

(3) He leads us (v. 3)

He guides us in the paths of righteousness. He takes us in the paths of right living. He calls us to follow behind Him. We just have to follow His footsteps.

(4) He protects us (v. 4)

He protects us in the shadow of death. He protects us in our trials and tribulation. He stands beside us, He rescues us, and He brings us safely home.

(5) He richly blesses us (v. 5)

Occasionally, He keeps all our foes at bay. He makes joy abound in our hearts with His many blessings.

(6) He perseveres to the end with us (v. 6)

His goodness and love will follow us all our days. He will not give up until His goodness and mercy have followed us home to His eternal glory.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
