And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. (Ephesians 4:30)
All blessings flow to us through the Holy Spirit. And no good thing can come out of us (in holy thought, devout worship, or gracious act) except by the sanctifying work of the same Holy Spirit. It is God who works in us to will and to do of His own good pleasure.
We can speak for Jesus only when the Holy Spirit touches our tongue. And it is the Holy Spirit who makes intercession for us in our prayer. Without the Holy Spirit we can do nothing. We can have no life within us except through the Holy Spirit.
Let us not grieve the Holy Spirit. Let us not provoke Him to anger by our sin.
Let us not quench the Holy Spirit. Let us be ready to obey His every prompting.
Let us attempt to do nothing without the Holy Spirit. Let us begin no project, carry on no enterprise, and conclude no transaction, without imploring His blessing.
Let us do the Holy Spirit the due homage of feeling our entire weakness apart from Him. Let us depend alone upon Him for our every undertaking all the days of our life.
